Facial fillers, also known as “facial injectables,” are a noninvasive solution to treating lines, wrinkles, and creases. Dr. Douglas Taranow, a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, offers multiple types of fillers at his NYC practice.
Types of Fillers
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is a non-animal, biodegradable gel composed of hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the skin. This is the ideal treatment for patients looking to restore lost volume in the cheeks. By lifting and contouring the midface, you can achieve age-reversing results that are proven to last one to two years. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC builds upon itself, and patients require less product during repeat treatments.
JUVÉDERM®
Rejuvenating the facial skin and lifting the underlying tissues, Juvéderm is also made of a non-animal biodegradable gel composed of hyaluronic acid. It is effective in smoothing out creases on the cheeks and around the mouth (“marionette lines”) as well as plumping the lips. The effects of Juvéderm usually last six to nine months. Juvéderm is also offered with a numbing agent (Lidocaine) added into the material to decrease discomfort during injection.
Radiesse®
This volumizing filler is made of calciumbased microspheres (a naturally occurring substance in the body). The filler acts as a scaffold under the skin, providing structure and stimulating your own collagen to grow. This natural collagen continues to grow for several months, which extends the effect of the injection. In many patients, the filler lasts for a year or more.

The Procedure
After Dr. Taranow assesses your facial appearance to determine which areas would most benefit from facial filler treatment, the injection site will be cleaned and a topical anesthetic may be applied to numb the area. The injections are administered in just a few minutes.
