Since facial skin care is one of the most crucial aspects of taking care of yourself, the best variety of self-care often starts with the face. Keeping a fresh, glowing face as you age is one of the best ways to continue feeling young, but issues caused by aging, acne, or other skin damage can leave your face looking aged and dull.
The Clareon Pulsed Light System, used by Dr. Taranow, offers the very latest in skin rejuvenation and resurfacing. Its state-of-the-art system offers patients a minimally invasive way to target wrinkles, dark spots, and other skin conditions, leaving patients with beautifully clear skin.
What Is Light Therapy?
Light therapy is the term commonly used to refer to intense pulsed light (IPL) system. These types of systems use a device to deliver multiple wavelengths of light on problematic areas of the skin, such as dark spots, scars, or discoloration.
IPL can also be used to treat skin damage from rosacea or other skin conditions. As a minimally invasive procedure, it generally causes very little discomfort.
Am I a Candidate for Light Therapy?
Light therapy may be a good choice if you are looking to treat certain skin issues, such as:
- Dark spots
- Acne and acne scars
- Sun damage
- Age spots
- Broken blood vessels
- Loose skin
- Wrinkles and folds
Light therapy can also be used for hair removal. Ideal candidates will be in good general health and have realistic expectations. Patients who smoke will have to stop smoking for at least two weeks before their first treatment.
What Is the Clareon Pulsed Light System?
The Clareon Pulsed Light System goes one step further than standard IPL systems in delivering light therapy treatment. With the Clareon Pulsed Light System, Dr. Taranow can use its multiple filters to create various types of wavelengths to treat different types of skin and various conditions.
The Clareon Pulsed Light System is specially designed to provide powerful, effective treatments with minimal patient discomfort. Its patented Krypton lamp allows the wavelengths to penetrate deeper in the skin, which creates a better level of treatment without compromising safety or comfort.
How Is Light Therapy Done?
Dr. Taranow will first examine your skin to see what issues the Clareon Pulsed Light System will treat. Patients who have recently had a suntan or have had recent sun exposure should not have Clareon Pulsed Light System treatments done.
Dr. Taranow will use one of the Clareon handheld devices to deliver the wavelengths of light to treat targeted areas. Your eyes will be shielded from the light during the treatment.
Patients may feel a slight stinging sensation as the light penetrates the skin. This sensation is often compared to the feeling of a rubber band slapping the skin. Treatment time depends on the condition of the targeted area, but treatments typically take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete.
What Can I Expect From the Recovery and Results After Light Therapy?
There is no downtime associated with the Clareon Pulsed Light System. Patients can go right back to work, use makeup and skincare products, and resume any activities. Although some caution should be used with sun exposure; patients should use sunscreen to protect their treated skin, especially in the first few days after treatment.
Results are immediately apparent, even after just one treatment. However, some conditions may require multiple sessions to fully treat the area. Most procedures require at least three treatment sessions, but hair removal will take up to six treatments to achieve an effective outcome.
