Summertime: a time to relax, enjoy the sun, and lay back in the heat. For most of us, the return of the summer brings back memories of spending long days lounging poolside or at the beach, soaking up the sunshine. Summer is a great time to relax and kick back.
But for some of us, summertime also means the return of the dreaded bikini season—which means extra eyes on our imperfections. Summer can put an unwanted spotlight on those extra pounds you can’t seem to get rid of.
Dr. Taranow offers procedures to help sculpt and contour your body, making you feel confident, sexy, and rejuvenated just in time for those summer months.
Summer Body Goals
It’s natural to start the year off with a resolution to lose weight and get your “dream body” in time for summer. But some of us may not be able to get right to where we want before temperatures start to climb. Some people also struggle with excess fat that stubbornly sticks around despite diet and exercise.
Cosmetic procedures can help patients who want to:
- Remove excess fat and skin
- Sculpt and define body contours
- Address body imperfections
- Smooth and flatten the stomach, hip, and thigh areas
- Shape and augment breasts and buttocks
Procedures offered by Dr. Taranow can help address these concerns and provide patients with a smooth, tight body shape and contour in the weeks before the summer season begins.
Getting Your Summer Body
Patients will discuss their goals with Dr. Taranow and go over what procedures will be best suited to meet their concerns. Dr. Taranow will develop a plan that works best for each patient and discuss any previous medical treatments before the procedure.
The recovery process for each procedure will also be discussed. Some procedures may have a longer recovery time than others, so patients should be informed so they can make the proper preparations.
This procedure is a perfect option for patients who are looking to shape and sculpt body contours and get rid of excess fat. Liposuction can target several areas, including the stomach, hips, thighs, arms, back, and neck. Liposuction will safely and efficiently remove inches of fat, leading to smoother body contours.
Dr. Taranow performs liposuction as an outpatient procedure. Either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia will be used to make the patient comfortable before small incisions are made in target areas.
Small cannulas, or hollow tubes, are inserted in the incision to suction out the fat before the incisions are closed. The procedure will typically take about an hour to complete, and the results are typically long-lasting since fat cells are permanently removed.
Liposuction is one of the most minimally invasive ways to reach your desired body contours. While patients will need some time to allow incision sites to heal, most of the swelling should subside within two to three weeks, making it a perfect option to undergo in the months right before summer starts.
This procedure, also referred to as an abdominoplasty, improves the appearance of the stomach area by permanently removing excess fat and tissue while tightening the skin. A tummy tuck can help to drastically reduce the size of the stomach, leading to a smooth, flat tummy and better overall body contour.
Dr. Taranow also performs a tummy tuck as an outpatient procedure. An incision is made horizontally along the lower abdomen, right above the pubic area below any C-section scars. Those abdominal muscles are tightened to flatten and smooth the tummy, while excess fat and skin are removed. The remaining skin is then pulled over and tightened before the incision is sutured.
A full tummy tuck procedure can take between two and four hours (if liposuction is also performed) to complete. Dr. Taranow also offers a mini tummy tuck, which is less invasive and targets a smaller area.
Patients will need to wear a compression garment for support and avoid exercise or strenuous activity for one month following the surgery. The average recovery time for a tummy tuck to return to work is 10 days while more substantial results are seen in the 4-6 weeks post-op. This procedure should be done in early spring for the best summertime results.
Brazilian Butt Lift
This procedure, also known as BBL, helps to improve the size and shape of the buttocks without the need of artificial substances or implants. A Brazilian Butt Lift uses the patient’s own fat to increase the volume of the buttocks, creating a rounder, fuller shape many patients desire.
Dr. Taranow uses liposculpture technology to extract fat from areas such as the arms, thighs, hips, stomach, or back. Once it’s extracted, the fat is then cleaned and purified. The purified fat is then injected into the buttocks, in layers, to increase volume and create a plumper backside.
Patients will have to wear a compression garment and avoid sitting or laying on the buttocks for two to four weeks following their BBL. Most exercise can be resumed after about a month. BBL can give patients a rounder backside while also removing fat from other areas. BBL can restore body balance, making patients feel sexy and confident in time for summer.
This procedure is similar to liposuction and the Brazilian Butt Lift in that all three procedures can be used to remove excess fat from problem areas. With fat transfer, the fat is removed and then injected back into other areas, helping to increase volume and enhance the appearance.
Fat transfer can be used to augment the buttocks and breasts and reduce fat in the arms, thighs, hips, and stomach. Dr. Taranow uses cannulas to extract the fat from these areas, which is then purified. The fat is then injected into areas that need enhancement.
Fat transfer is a less invasive method than a tummy tuck to remove excess fat. It has the added benefit of providing the opportunity to enhance other areas.
Most patients typically recover within a few weeks. Because it uses the patient’s own fat, there is no risk of rejection. Results are permanent, though some of the fat cells will be lost during recovery.
