There are a variety of surgical and nonsurgical options available for those seeking to enhance their facial features or correct wrinkles and fine lines. Dr. Taranow can help you determine which procedure is right for you depending on your facial anatomy, the condition of your skin, and the results you desire. However, JUVÉDERM® has several advantages over other facial fillers, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, and surgical procedures like the facelift.

JUVÉDERM® vs. Other Facial Fillers

Injectable fillers work to plump areas of the face to smooth out wrinkles and provide a more youthful look. There are several injectable fillers on the market, but Juvéderm has a few notable advantages over the other brands. Juvéderm usually reaps results superior to other injectable fillers because it is composed primarily of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the human body. Juvéderm is also more smooth in consistency than other injectables because the concentration of hyaluronic acid is so high. With some fillers, an allergy test is required prior to treatment to ensure the candidate will respond well to the procedure, but because Juvéderm is not derived from animal tissue, there is no chance of an allergic reaction.

JUVÉDERM® vs. Laser Treatments

In the past, injectable fillers were not as safe or effective on darkskinned people, but because of its chemical compounds and innovative technology, Juvéderm is safe to use on darker skin. It is injected below the epidermis (the uppermost layer of the skin containing pigment producing cells) so there is no interaction between the material and skin pigment. Because darker skin naturally absorbs more light than other skin types, burns and pigmentation are a higher risk when laser treatment is used.

JUVÉDERM® vs. Facelift Surgery

Weight loss and aging can lead to sunken cheeks or hollows beneath the eyes, which can make a person appear older. A facelift can lift the sagging skin, but it cannot replace lost volume. Juvéderm works as a “voluminous” agent to restore a more youthful appearance. Sometimes Juvéderm is used to accompany facelift surgery to provide a more youthful look overall. Juvéderm and other hyaluronic fillers are a good option for patients seeking facial enhancement for the first time because if they do not like the result, it can be reversed within 24 to 48 hours. Unlike the facelift, final results with Juvéderm only last about 6 months, which can be an advantage depending on what you are hoping to achieve with the treatment. A facelift also involves a much longer procedure and recovery time, while Juvéderm injections only take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete and involves no downtime.

JUVÉDERM® vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic

People often confuse injectable fillers with Botox. Injectable fillers fill the skin with solution to plump the area, while Botox temporarily paralyzes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Many understand the risk of the “frozen” look with Botox but accept it because Botox has remained the most popular noninvasive procedure for years. Juvéderm is a newer treatment that requires fewer treatments than Botox injections because the results last longer, and there is no risk of a “frozen” result.
