We all want to look good. And how could we not? Selfies and Instagram rule today’s world, making image crucial in how we present ourselves and how we’re seen in return. Looking less than perfect isn’t an option in an age with cameras and filters everywhere.
No wonder millions of people go under the knife every year. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgery, over 17 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2018. And it’s a number that’s only expected to grow in the near future.
Of that number, facial fillers were some of the most sought-after treatments, with over 2 million injectables performed in 2018, according to the ASPS. Fillers are increasingly becoming a go-to way to treat signs of aging or correct other appearance concerns.
Intro to Fillers: What Are They?
Facial fillers are a non-invasive way to plump and fill the skin. They’re typically composed of naturally derived or synthetic compounds that are injected into areas in need of extra volume, such as lips or cheeks, or to smooth wrinkles, scars, and lines.
Some of the most popular fillers are made with calcium hydroxylapatite, a mineral-like compound that’s found in human bones. Calcium hydroxylapatite is used to fill wrinkles and add volume to the face while producing results that look incredibly natural.
Another common ingredient used is hyaluronic acid. Much like calcium hydroxylapatite, hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body. It is used to refill and plump skin and lips, can help treat acne scars, wrinkles, and other skin conditions.
There are also other types of fillers that use different substances, some synthetic, to improve appearance concerns. Sometimes ones own fat may be injected as fat grafts for enhancement.
What Fillers Can Do
Fillers can be used to:
- Add volume to cheeks
- Plump up lips
- Smooth wrinkles and deep creases
- Treat acne and acne scars
- Fill cheek depressions
- Lift facial tissues
Fillers can create a subtle change or dramatically alter the way you look—it’s all up to you. Treatments can be customized to fit your needs, making fillers a fantastic way to update your look without going under the knife.
Dr. Taranow offers three different types of injectable fillers designed to plump the skin, erase lines, and correct other facial imperfections:
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC
This biodegradable gel is made out of hyaluronic acid, which can treat a varied amount of skin conditions such as acne, scars, wrinkles, and cheek depressions. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is also used to help lift and contour cheeks with a loss of volume due to aging.
JUVÉDERM ULTRA PLUS®
Also a biodegradable gel composed of hyaluronic acid, Dr. Taranow uses JUVÉDERM® to smooth creases on cheeks and deep lines around the mouth. This treatment also lifts skin tissues for a refreshed look. JUVÉDERM® is also used to enhance and enlarge lip size, along with redefining the lip border. This product contains Lidocaine which is a numbing agent so there is little pain following the initial injection.
This innovative filler is made out of tiny spheres of calcium hydroxylapatite in a gel solution and is used to immediately replace lost volume and fill creases. RADIESSE® also stimulates the skin’s own natural production process to create collagen, which leads to newer tissue growth.
Reveal The Best You: Results From Fillers
Patients may experience some discomfort after filler treatments, such as bruising, swelling, and pain around the injection sites. Typically, these symptoms dissipate quickly.
Results from fillers can last anywhere from a few months to two years, depending on the treatment. Some fillers, such as RADIESSE®, offer benefits that actually encourage new collagen growth, creating a rejuvenating effect for years to come.
Fillers can be an incredibly effective way to correct years of damage skin by replenishing the soft tissue loss just under the skin. They can transform areas succumbing to aging’s effects, restore facial harmony, and enhance or alter features. Fillers can help you put your best foot forward in an image-driven world.
