Plastic surgery has become a huge industry that is always evolving with new techniques and technologies, and the types of procedures available are continually expanding. Body modifications can be used as a form of personal expression or even art, but as most would likely agree, the following body modifications are very rare and bizarre.

Ear Implant on Forearm

Stelarc is a Cypriot-Australian performance artist who believes that technology constructs human nature. To investigate how technology can alter our conception of the body and the notion of wholeness of the body, Stelarc had a ¼ scale replica of his ear grown in a lab using human cells and then transplanted onto the inside of his forearm.

Tentacle Implants

A man who goes by the name Dark Freak had implants placed beneath the skin on the top of his forearm to make it appear like an octopus tentacle. The implants used were plastic saucers, so the procedure was done for appearance rather than use since they do not actually suction to things like real suction cups.

Breast Implants on Tattoo

You may have heard of women getting tattoos on their chests or breasts, but you may not have heard about breast implants under a tattoo. A tattoo artist named Lane Jensen had small silicone implants inserted into his leg to augment the breasts of his cowgirl tattoo. Unfortunately, his body rejected the implants and they came out when pressure was applied to his calf.

Although a variety of body modifications can be performed, it does not always mean that they are recommended. Our goal with plastic surgery is to improve the lives of patients so that they can feel confident in themselves and their bodies. If you are considering a plastic surgery procedure in the New York City area, Dr. Taranow can help determine if you are an ideal candidate.
